Eclipses bring changes. Many believe that an eclipse is about ten times more powerful than a full or new moon. Most find times during eclipses are stressful, because, let's face it, we don't like change. The eclipses always occur on the New or Full Moons, and they usually come in pairs like we have coming in April 2014. But, occasionally we will get three eclipses in a row. The New Moon eclipses are always solar eclipses, and the eclipses that occur on the Full Moon are always lunar eclipses. Some of the changes eclipses can stimulate are the breakup of a "rocky" relationship, layoffs and cutbacks in industry, death of an elderly loved one, sudden accidents, and new babies being born. Change brings progress, even if it is sometimes very uncomfortable.

Mars retrograde will probably be the big event for March. We might find that our energy is low, and projects we begin could end up much differently than we anticipated. Saturn will also turn retrograde and Jupiter will turn direct, so we may notice that some areas of our life are ending, and some are reawakening. Jupiter and Uranus will maintain, and even strengthen, their conflict throughout this month. Most of our day to day routines should go fine, but there could be a subconscious nagging, and even a few outbursts before March ends.

Mercury is a very small, but dense, planet that orbits the Sun about every 88 days and turns retrograde three or four times per year. All of the major planets, except the Sun and Moon, turn retrograde, but none turn retrograde as often as Mercury. That's why you hear us astrologers chirping about Mercury's retrograde so much.

When a planet turns retrograde either we (the Earth) are passing it, or it is passing us on our solar race track. And, just like when you pass a car on the highway, for a short period of time, the planet (auto) appears to be moving backwards. So, when a planet is in retrograde, it is closer to the Earth than it is in other parts of it's orbit. Because the planet is so close to us, it's gravitational pull will have a stronger influence on our personalities.

We will have a little of everything in January 2014. The month may begin with extra challenges in front of us, because eight of the ten major planets will be lining up for battle in cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn). There could also be big mistakes and failures as January ends with Jupiter tugging on Pluto. However, we could find extra comfort at home mid month, under the Cancer full moon, but people could also get a bit touchy with Venus (still in retrograde) squaring off with Mars around the same time. We also have two New Moons this month with the second one beginning the Chinese New Year (the year of the horse), and Venus will turn direct as the month ends. All in all, January may bring a few challenges, but there will also be time to relax and be ourselves.

December is going to begin with a very majestic tone. The first twelve days of December could bring inspiration and strengthen our faith. But, around the first day of Winter, we may begin feeling a loss of control, and by the end of December we could be dealing with accidents, and fears and worries could be creeping into our thoughts.

December begins with the Sagittarius New Moon on Monday, December 2nd. There could be some pleasant surprises with Uranus beaming positive rays towards the Sun and the Moon. Also, people will be at ease and ready to laugh as the week begins, with Mercury dancing with Mars. It will be a great week for beginning new projects, but a fight between Mercury and Neptune may cause us to begin to lose our ambition by Thursday, December 5th, the last day of Hanukkah.

November could begin with a great big bang. Uranus and Pluto will hit the peak of their disturbance on November 1st bringing upsets and strife. Two days later on November 3rd, we will be under the light of a total solar eclipse, and that pretty much guarantees changes for most of us. Then we will have to deal with Jupiter turning retrograde and Mercury turning direct, before our luck finally changes around mid-month. In fact, the second half of November will not only signal a return to normalcy, but we may even get rewarded. Thanksgiving should go well, and we may find some very interesting bargains on Black Friday.

November begins on the weekend, and this would be a great weekend to dig a hole and crawl in it. I don't mean that literally, but things will be difficult for most of us. We could be dealing with crisis, tragedy, and lots of unexpected events throughout the weekend. There could be emotional issues and loss on Friday, November 1st, but for most, there will also be loved ones there to support us. People could be looking for revenge throughout the whole weekend with a solar eclipse in Scorpio on Sunday, November 3rd. Diplomacy and introspection will be the key to dealing with these issues. Also, practice moderation. Some of us may overdo it.

Venus Retrograde Winter 2013 - 2014

We astrologers don't talk much about Venus' retrograde, mostly because it only happens every eighteen months. Unlike Mercury's retrograde, which occurs every three to four months. Venus' retrograde is every bit as important as Mercury's, maybe even a bit more important. When a planet is in retrograde it is either passing the Earth or being passed by the Earth on our "solar race track." Venus travels a bit faster than the Earth and orbits the Sun every 225 days. When Venus is in retrograde, she is passing between the Earth and the Sun and is very close to us, therefore her gravitational influence will be stronger.

The Uranus-Pluto conflict will be escalating throughout the month of October, and the month will begin with the Sun irritating the hell out of these two planets. We may get a bit of a reprieve from the New Moon through Columbus Day, but by mid month we will be in the midst of a lunar eclipse and another Mercury retrograde. And, as we approach Halloween and the end of October, there could be some very rash and fanatical behavior going on around us. Keep your schedules light, keep a stash of extra money, and take care of your health this month. You are probably going to need the extra time, money, and energy.

Late September through Mid November 2013

Uranus and Pluto are two slow outer planets and aspects between them often last for years. The battle (square) between them began in the Spring of 2011 and will continue through Winter 2015. Because these planets are in retrograde almost as often as they are moving direct, the angle between them will widen and narrow throughout the process. So, there will be times when their energy peaks and then wanes again. Uranus and Pluto will be building up to another peak though the Fall of 2013 and as they approach their climax, Mercury will begin his retrograde, and the Sun and Moon will line up for their biannual ecliptic events.

Uranus and Pluto will bring emotional strife, and some will become fanatical. There will be upsets on the personal and the community level. Its likely that internet crime will increase, so it would be a very good idea to increase the security of your internet accounts. There could also be public demonstrations and disturbances, especially around the Halloween and Samhain holidays.

The first twelve days of September may be a little difficult with Mars focusing his potency on a few different outer planets. Mars is energy, so we may be feeling extra tired, or we may find ourselves working harder than we expected. But, all will be changing by Yom Kippur, September 14th, and life should be shaping up nicely by the UN International Day of Peace, September 21st. Be careful not to overspend after the Fall Equinox on September 22nd, because you will probably need that money in October.

The planets are constantly moving, and astrology cycles on a positive - negative rhythm. If the planets are "bad" today, be patient. They will move to a better place in time, and visa versa. Back in April and May, life was difficult under the Uranus-Pluto square. Then, in June and July opportunities were plentiful with the Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune grand trine. And now comes August, and its time to get back to the routine of life. Little challenges will be popping-up throughout the month, and there will be a couple of big problems as Jupiter moves to oppose Pluto then square Uranus around mid-month. We will get back into our grooves and spiritual tests this month, and the Leo Sun will remind us to take a break and enjoy life when we can.

Some amazing things have been happening in June, and they are going to continue, perhaps even get better, in July. Two slow, outer planets, Saturn and Neptune have been at a very tight, very positive angle since May 11th. Some of the inner, quicker planets have been complimenting this aspect in June, generating all the great stuff we've enjoyed lately. In July, the gas giant, Jupiter, will follow the inner planets complimenting Saturn and Neptune creating one of the most grand aspects we've seen in the past decade. Its going to be a great month for accomplishments, rewards, and finding hidden resources, so take advantage of the good stars while they last.

Even though I'm promising happy days ahead, July 1st, the first Monday of the month, may be an exception to the rule. People could be a bit aggressive, and we may make some wrong decisions or say hurtful things on this day. By Tuesday, July 2nd, most of the upsets will be in the past, but there could a few more mistakes through Thursday, July 4th, Independence Day (US). Try to pace yourself and stay focused, and you may find that more pleasant opportunities drop into your lap.

Mercury Retrograde in Cancer - Summer 2013

Its Mercury retrograde time again! Mercury will be traveling backwards through Cancer this Summer. Cancer loves family, friends, and home, so we may decide to look-up old friends, or spend our vacation at home this year. In fact, all of Mercury's retrogrades in 2013 are in water signs. Maybe we should nickname 2013, "The Year of the Backstroke."

When Mercury is in retrograde, it means he is passing the Earth on the solar race track. Its similar to passing a car on the freeway. For a period of time, the car appears to be moving backward against the background as it passes us. Basically, Mercury will be closer to the Earth, so it's gravitational pull (and astrological influence) will be stronger.

For all the strife, pain, losses, and disturbances we endured in April, the universe will be sending us an equal amount of blessings and opportunities in May. That's one thing about the stars. They're always moving. If they're bad right now, in time they will move to a good position. We have three outer planets coming to a grand trine (the most positive aspect in astrology) over then next two months, and we should notice the positive energy as soon as June begins. Mercury will be turning retrograde later this month, but we may not care!

June begins on a Saturday, and this could be an excellent weekend for new projects, creative ideas, and possibly a little romance. The realistic and the idealistic will balance on Sunday and Monday, June 2nd and 3rd, as Mercury completes a triangle with Saturn and Neptune. It will be an excellent time to make plans and decisions about our lives. Our motivation could slow down, and our energy could begin dropping by midweek. Saturn will be draining Mars' energy for a few days. If you can, take a few days off from work from midweek through Monday, June 10th. You may get to experience the most pleasant vacation you've had in a long time. If you can't, try to keep your schedule light and postpone deadlines. It will be a time for rest and relaxation, and it is likely projects will not move forward.

May will have typical up and down days, but it will also include two eclipses and a climatic battle between the slow and powerful outer planets, Uranus and Pluto. Unexpected problems, and possibly even tragedies, could arise personally and globally. The whole month won't be bad, but it is likely there will be a few "crappy" days. Most will be over after Memorial day, and we can look forward to a very pleasant ending to this month of chaos.

May should begin on a positive note, with the Sun and Pluto encouraging us to make a few changes in our routines. The weekend of May 3rd could also be very pleasant. We may be in the mood to get organized and clear away clutter with Mars and Pluto out to transform our environments. Mercury and Saturn will be at an opposition, and this could bring confusion with legal contracts. Save any important decisions until Monday.

March's nightmare will end instantly on April Fools' Day. Mercury's retrograde and all those planetary battles from March will quickly become ancient history, and we will settle down to a more comfortable pace. There could be a disturbance around April 12th, but outside of those few days, life could actually become so easy, that the eclipse on April 25th will catch us off guard. Get busy and make the most of April's fair stars, because the tides will turn sooner than we think.

April Fools' Day, April 1st, could begin quite blissfully. The April Fools' jokes will mostly be taken with a light heart and an open mind, so plan your best! The rest of the week should be uneventful with nothing but lunar events in the sky. We may find we get some extra work done and even come up with new ideas to make our work easier.

Astrologically, March will be coming in like a lamb and going out like a lion. Even though Mercury is in retrograde, life could be exceptionally positive over the first ten days of March, but by the time Mercury turns direct on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, there could be unexpected accidents (especially on the highways) and a general feeling of unease. The last week of March could be especially difficult with the outer and the inner planets lining up for a major battle. Take time to enjoy the last few weeks of Winter, because by the time Spring begins the challenges will be upon us once again.

March begins on a Friday with the Sun, Saturn, and Pluto singing in harmony and the Moon in passionate Scorpio. Its going to be a great weekend for progress in groups or alone. Our determination and will power will be high, our troubleshooting insight will be off the scale, and conversations with authority figures will go better than expected.

If you think January was nice, just wait for February. We may have one difficult weekend, and the Full Moon could bring a challenge. But, most of the month should be smooth sailing, and there could even be extra blessings. In fact, I am forecasting that Valentine's Day 2013 will be the best Valentines day we've had this century with lots of steamy romance and sex! Mars is going to be busy energizing some of the outer planets this month, and by Presidents' Day, we may find a project or situation has been transformed.

Venus will enter Aquarius, and Mars will enter Pisces on the first day of February. We will probably be ready for a change. The Moon will be in passionate Scorpio on Groundhog Day, Saturday, February 2nd, and the groundhog may be very vehement expressing his fear of his shadow this year. (*wink*) Mars and Neptune will be partners in crime during the weekend of February 1st, and some will not be practical. Think twice, before you spend or commit yourself to a project. And, postpone any major purchases until Wednesday.

When Mercury is in Pisces, he stimulates our imaginations, and emotional events can be burned into our memories. But, reality can escape us. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and rules the arts, psychic intuition, creative processes, and psychology. This Mercury retrograde may not be a good time to make any life changing decisions, but it will be an excellent time to finish up that book you were writing.

When Mercury is in retrograde, he comes between the Earth and the Sun, passing us on our solar racetrack. Mercury doesn't actually reverse directions, he just appears that way against the backdrop of the universe. All of the planets in the solar system, except the Sun and the Moon, turn retrograde on occasion. In fact, some of the slow outer planets are in retrograde almost as much as they are moving forward. Mercury's retrograde gets more attention than the others, because he turns retrograde 3 or 4 times a year. And, even though Mercury is a very small planet, he is a very dense planet, so he has a strong gravitational influence on the Earth.

January is often thought of as a cold unproductive month. We sometimes look at it as a time of "hibernation," but this year, January 2013, could surprise us. We will have only one planet in retrograde, Jupiter, and he will be turning direct. The inner planets, Mercury, Venus, and Mars will be on the opposite side of the Sun, which will make viewing them a bit difficult. But, their aspects and gravitational influence will also be minor. Even the Moons will be pleasant. Mercury will be lining up behind the Sun and the Moon on the Capricorn New Moon, encouraging problem solving and new ideas. The Full Moon will be in fun loving Leo while singing with Jupiter and Uranus. January will be a good month for business and for politics. There is a possibility that our governments and our corporations will come up with new ideas and stronger values.

December will bring a big improvement over November. Those nasty eclipses and Mercury's retro will be well behind us, and life should bring a return to normalcy. Most of December will have routine ups and downs. There could be an increase in holiday depression around the second half of the month with Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter creating a tight triangle. All will be better than fine by New Year's Eve. Conflicts should be at a minimum, and creativity will be at a maximum as we usher in 2013.

The weekend of December 1st may not ring so well with three planets, Venus, Mars, and the Sun, sending negative vibes toward Jupiter. Some will go to extremes, and exaggeration and wastefulness are probable. Take it easy with the holiday shopping, and think twice before making any decisions to incur more debt.

Mercury Retrograde and 2 Eclipses - A November to Remember

November 2012 is going to be a month to remember. Mercury's retrograde will begin on Election Day (US), November 6th. This may slow down the election turnout and possibly even affect the elections. Then on November 13th we're going to have a total Solar Eclipse in the passionate sign of Scorpio. This could bring total transformation for some of us. Mercury's retrograde will end (direct station) on Monday, November 26th, right after the US Thanksgiving holiday, with Mars crossing Pluto at the same time. We could be feeling frustrated, to say the least. Then we'll encounter a Lunar Eclipse on November 28th in Gemini, the sign of duplicity. Some of may jump to conclusions and make a decision they will regret.

Its going to be a November to remember. Mercury's retrograde will be upon us this month. And, that's not all! Mars will be stirring up the Uranus-Pluto conflict, and we will be under the influence of a solar and a lunar eclipse. Even the spectacular Leonid meteor shower is going to be a disappointment this year. There will be challenges and changes for us to deal with this month, and some of us will be quite proud of ourselves when its all over.

November begins on All Saints Day with an argument between Venus and Uranus, which could bring rapid mood swings. There could be more trouble when the weekend of November 2nd begins as Venus moves her conflict to Pluto. Arguments could turn into nuclear disasters on Saturday, November 3rd, but we will feel much calmer on November 4th (the day daylight savings time ends). That extra hour of sleep will also help.

October could bring a return to normalcy. That nasty Uranus-Pluto square that we have been under all Summer will finally lighten up this month, and Saturn and Neptune will be singing in harmony through the first half of October. We may even want to kick back and enjoy the fruits of our labors during this month of harvest. Early this month Jupiter will turn retrograde, and Mars will be fighting with Neptune, which could bring a little bad luck and stupidity. Also as we approach the end of October, Mars will hit a conflict with Jupiter, which could bring a few more problems, but probably only minor ones. All in all, the month of October may bring a few tough days, and a few very fortunate days, but mostly many uneventful days encouraging us to relax and enjoy.

September closes amid the powerful Aries Full Moon on September 29-30 challenging Pluto and Uranus. This could be the most intense Full Moon of 2012. Major changes are to be expected. The secret to our success in a shifting environment is our willingness to experience rapid evolution. While our growth can be swift and painful at times, our rewards too can be great.

A Full Moon is an opposition between the Sun and the Moon. Oppositions are awareness's that come to us externally through people, places, situations and events. Improving Life - Saturn Trine Neptune - 2012 and 2013

It takes Saturn about 29.5 years to orbit the Sun, and Neptune requires approximately 165 years. Its not often these two giants aspect one another, and their aspects can last nearly a year or more. The last time these 2 were trine was a shocking time for our nation, June 2001 through April 2002.

Saturn represents hard work, will power, and patience. He is the drill sergeant of the zodiac. Neptune is the creative dreamer, and rules things hidden or veiled. Trines are usually very positive aspects, but back in '01 and '02 Neptune was traveling through the sign of Aquarius, the ruler of the unexpected. Last time Neptune kept the rose tinted glasses over our eyes and brought us a surprise none of us ever expected. But, Saturn and Neptune were also there to bring us strength and courage to heal after the tragedy.

Also, just past mid month, Pluto and Uranus will be sending more tragedies and irritations. September will end with the possibility of bad luck and accidents under the insanity of the Full Moon. Many of us will find ourselves challenged this month, but we may be very proud how well we handle it.

There have been too many times that Mercury's retrograde has gotten a bad rap. This Mercury's retrograde is going to be a testimonial to what I've been saying all along, "Mercury's retrograde is not bad." Its just a time to revisit the past. Mercury will be doing his whole retrograde in Leo, and yes, Leos love drama. But, who doesn't? Grab some popcorn and a good seat, and enjoy the entertainment.

Mercury's retrograde will begin on July 14th (July 15th Europe and east), and whenever any planet is at it's station, there could be a few problems. A planetary station is the point it changes directions, either direct to retrograde (retrograde station) or retrograde to direct (direct station). Because Mercury is represented by the winged messenger, we may encounter travel delays and detours. We may also find it difficult to communicate, both written and verbal. Mercury also rules internet communications, so there could be transmission errors from texts getting lost, to banking errors, to getting dropped from your favorite chat room. But, that only lasts for about 3 days (one day before the station, the day of retrograde station, and one day after).

Last month was difficult, but in July we should begin to see things improve. We will have a few difficult days with Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto acting out, and Mercury will be doing his retrograde thing again this month. But, Jupiter and Uranus will also be sending us some unexpected blessings around the time the Sun enters Leo. All in all, compared to last month, July will feel like a walk in the park.

July will begin with an optimistic tone under the bright and shiny Sagittarius Moon, and Independence Day (July 4th) will be very nice with Mercury and Venus dancing with Uranus. There's a funny thing about the planets. Because they're always moving, when you have a spell of really positive aspects, like we did back in February, March, and April, there will be a spell of negative aspects in the future. I don't mean to be preaching doom and gloom, but June does not look good. June will begin on the crest of a lunar eclipse under the umbrella of Venus' retrograde and an approaching clash of outer planets. Needless to say, June could be a rather tough month, from beginning to end. There could be financial problems, relationship problems, and personal losses. Tread lightly this month, and for Heaven's sake, leave the big sticks in the woods. Conflicts could turn into disasters.

The first 3 days of June could be good for some but bad for others. It could be especially difficult for those with dominate Sagittarius, Gemini, Aries, Virgo, or Pisces in their charts. There will be a partial lunar eclipse on June 4th, (it will be visible from most of North America), and Neptune will be at his retrograde station at about the same time. Venus will be very close to the Sun when the eclipse occurs, and Mars will be squaring off with the Sun and Venus and the Moon creating the dreaded astrological T-square with this eclipse. Eclipses bring changes, and most of us find change difficult. Add Mars, the God of war, and there could be some incredible conflicts to deal with. Neptune switching directions could create confusion, and this could cause some of us to reach for our addictions to escape. Be careful what you say, be careful where you go, and by all means, be careful driving. Mars rules cars, so accidents will be more likely. And, watch out for the drunken driver, until at least Tuesday, June 5th. But, if you really want to be sure, wait until Friday, June 8th, before making any life changing decisions. Life should improve by the weekend, with Mercury and Neptune shaking hands on Friday, June 8th, and the Moon entering the humanitarian sign of Pisces, on Saturday, June 9th. The Pisces Moon will encourage healing and forgiveness, which may be very needed by then.

In fact, we will have so many positive aspects going on, that I'm not sure we will even notice that Mercury has turned retrograde (well... at least we won't care). Mercury's retrograde will end on April 4th without any planetary influences.

When Mercury is in retrograde, he is passing the Earth on our solar race track, thus he creates the optical illusion of moving backwards against the universe. Also his gravitational influence is stronger. Mercury only takes about 88 days to orbit the Sun, so we witness his retrograde about 3 or 4 times a year.

Moon in astrology reflects consciousness evolving through our internal process of feelings and guides us intuitively - through our gut feelings. Emotions are often vague and hidden from the light of consciousness. It might take a while to float up to conscious recognition and acknowledgment. Moon is the archetypal mother, called Mahina in Hawaii, the inner or outer woman, nourishing us in her unique way of being.

Each New Moon provides us with the beginning of a new cycle, a clean slate to start from. There is a little magic in these turning points of the New Moon and the Full Moon as there is in the Solstice and the Equinox. These are universal rhythms which remind me of our breathing. When we breathe in we supply the body with fresh oxygen and life force, then there is a moment of stillness before we breathe out, releasing the old and stagnant, then another still point and the cycle resumes.

For me astrology is just a wonderful way to find my place in these magnificent universal cycles and gain understanding in how to apply the wisdom found within it. There is the short cycle of the Moon waxing and waning in 28 days through the archetypal zodiac. And there is the longer cycle of the Sun moving through the 12 astrological signs throughout the year. Each station in a different sign is describing a specific universal quality available in that moment in time.

A Full Moon is receiving the full light radiance from the Sun and gives you a chance to become deeply conscious of usually more hidden areas in your lives. A Full Moon is a magical time and turning point before the fullness starts loosing force moving towards the next New Moon.

When I was a boy, my father used to have an antique wind-up pendulum-weighted clock named Teddy. It had a particular sound to it.. that is, if you could actually tune in to hearing it. This was because, after years of having the sound of its ticking (more a tocking!) in the background, the sound just seemed to blend in with the background like an aural chameleon. If the clock ever stopped, we would all notice it almost immediately by the absence of its sound. And if the pendulum was removed, the clock would not work, even if it was wound up. The pendulum was the balancing mechanism that made it possible for the rest of the clock to perform what it was designed to do. In the cosmic scheme of things, the Moon performs a similar function. It is a kind of pendulum weight at the end of our cosmic Local Ray of Creation. Without the Moon in the scheme of evolution and involution, it would be impossible for us to walk the Path of our own spiritual evolution. In each of our lives on Earth, it is the Moon that points our direction for each incarnation. In these next two issues of Golden Age, I will try to explain why this is so, what it means to us personally and how to utilize this knowledge in a practical way.
